Ripple Effect is committed to the recruitment and growth of female paddlers in the dragon boat community. Women continue to be under-represented in co-ed team sports such as paddling, where there are often concerns about not being strong enough to paddle or feeling intimidated by those who have been in the field for years. As one of the first teams with a dedicated women’s initiative, we hope to show women that they can become strong athletes no matter where they start from.

The primary goals of our women’s initiative are to encourage women to join the dragon boat community and create a safe environment in which the women of Ripple Effect can grow into world-class paddlers and athletes. On the water, our program includes a dedicated women’s boat called “Chicks Who Rip” that both practices and races together. Recognizing common concerns from women about fitness and strength training, our dedicated fitness staff can tailor team and individual workouts to our female paddlers’ needs, with modifications designed for any level of fitness.

Off the water, we host a series of women’s events 1-2 times per month, each focused on a topic related to women in fitness, women-specific well-being and mental health, or women in leadership. These events empower Ripple women to voice their opinions, check in with one another, and feel inspired. Past event topics include power poses, self-defense, and taking initiative in fitness and sports.

We are always looking to partner with fellow companies and organizations that share a similar goal, especially around women athletes in team sports. If you have any questions about our women’s initiative or would like to propose a partnership opportunity, please reach out to us at hello@ripplesf.org.
